New daycare soon to open in Ogden

For working families in the Ogden community, a new option will soon be available for local daycare. On February, 27, Emmanuel Lutheran Church will be cutting the ribbon on a new daycare facility.

The daycare project is the result of a generous gift to the community left by a previous pastor. In 2015, former pastor Donald Sondrol left $120,000 to the church with the guideline that it be used for ministry in the community. From there, the church formed a committee to decide how best those funds could be used, inviting leaders of the Ogden community to discuss the town's needs.

"Again and again from different sources we heard of the importance of supporting young families. Especially young working families," said Cowan.

"We learned that in Boone County there is a very large percentage of families with young children where all of the adults in the household are working."

These community meetings ultimately led to the church reaching out to Ashley Kargle, who operates Learn'n'Play Child Care out of her home. Kargle was invited to attend one of the community meetings, where she was approached about partnering with the church to expand her operation into the unused education wing of the building.
