Larry Miller

Larry Gene Miller, 85, of Ogden, Iowa, passed away on 5/8/2025 at home while under in-home hospice care. The family is lovingly honoring Larry’s request to have no visitation or celebration of life gathering. Interment will be held at Woodward Cemetery, Woodward, Iowa

Larry was born 1/10/1940 to Raymond Lewis and Coryl Evelyn (Husband) Miller in Perry, Iowa. Larry was raised on the family farm SW of Woodward near Lake Robbins. Larry attended Gardiner elementary and graduated from Woodward High School in 1958.

Larry was married to Billie J. Chapman and raised her two children, Shannon and Kelly as his own. Larry had a great work ethic, which he instilled into his children. Upon hearing of their boredom, Larry listed four pages of work tasks that needed to be completed on the farm – the children were never bored again!

Larry was married to Dorothy M. Oeffner for 36 years until her death in 2022. They resided in Ogden.

Larry enjoyed farm life. You can take the boy off the farm, but cannot take the farm out of the boy. He farmed with his dad and his brother, Denny. Upon his dad’s early death, Larry (age 13) and his brother (age 11) took over the farm together. Larry continued farming in Dallas County and later in Warren County until 1978. He then purchased Hoffman Oil Company in Ogden from Earrold and Lawrence Hoffman. Changing the name to Ogden Oil and LP Company, Larry ran that company until selling it to Quick Oil in the late 1990s.

Larry enjoyed restoring classic Farmall tractors and equipment, Red Power Magazine, gardening, classic cars, pet cats, and in his youth – fast cars, road racing and outrunning police.

In later days, Larry confessed Romans 10:9-10 to be true and since there is only one name under the heaven given among men by which we need to be saved (Acts 4:12), Larry asked Yah to forgive him (Psalm 68:4 with Strong’s H3050, Acts 2:21, 38).

Survivors include sons, Kelly (Arvella) Miller of Urbandale; Brian (Patti) Oeffner of Johnston; daughters, Shannon (Rene) Bourgeault of Pueblo, CO; Renee (Red) Wagenaar of Paullina; brother Dennis of Osceola, nephews, wonderful neighbors, and a terrific community.

Larry was proceeded in death by his parents and wife Dorothy.

Condolences may be sent to P.O. Box 336, Ogden, Iowa 50212, or online at https://www.carsonstappfuneralhome.com. In lieu of flowers or memorials, please raise a glass and toast Larry’s memory.
