Childhood dream comes true with opening of Swiss Farm Veterinary
Erich Hodges was just eight-years-old when he fell in love with veterinary medicine. Like many of us, Hodges grew up in a family that owned horses, cows, chickens, dogs, and cats, so visits from their local veterinarian in Hockinson, Washington weren’t all that rare of an occurrence.
“I became so interested in the treatment aspect of it,” Hodges explained. “Our vet could fix all these problems, and I knew I wanted to do that, too.”
Throughout his childhood and teenage years, his passion only grew, so Hodges would go on ride-alongs and job shadow with professionals in his future field. During high school, based on his grades and ever-growing animal interests, Hodges was heavily recruited by the Iowa State University College of Agriculture and Life Sciences. The efforts paid off, when after finishing high school, Hodges picked up his life and moved across the country to attend ISU. Pursuant to what was now nearly a life-long dream, he began his undergrad work in the Honors program, with double majors in Animal and Dairy Sciences with a focus on Pre-Veterinary Medicine, and even a minor in German.
“I was incredibly busy,” he laughs.
The extra work was nothing in comparison to Hodges’ desire to fulfill his dream of working with animals, however. Through a blur of education and experiences, Hodges has now graduated from ISU as a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine. He is once again looking ahead to what’s in store for the future: providing veterinary services to Ogden and the surrounding area.
