Welcoming a new group to National Honor Society

“You are so much more than the accolades you receive, the things you accomplish or the stuff you accumulate. Your value, worth and identity comes from who you are on the inside.”

This message is what National Honor Society alumnus Dr. Karen Cleveland hoped the students seated before her would carry with them throughout their lives.

The former OHS graduate reflected back on her own experiences as she addressed the new inductees, current members and parents attending the National Society Induction Ceremony Tuesday, March 21, 2017 at the Leonard Good Community Center.

In conclusion, she challenged students to take time to discover and accept who they are on the inside, then  pursue the passions of their hearts.

Dr. Cleveland graduated from Ogden High School in 1998 and has a PhD in clinical psychology. She is  currently a Lecturer in Psychology at Central College in Pella.

Each year select students are recognized for their outstanding achievements, both in and outside the classroom. Membership into National Honor Society is based on scholarship, leadership, service and character.  This year’s new inductees from OHS are Jeffrey Chumbley, Sydney Diggs, Patrick Glenn, Jacob Hildreth, Kennedy Kruse, Maryssa Soder, Jonah Tews, Hallie Weber and Maranda Wheelock.
