Vote for your favorite quilt block at the Boone County Fair

Quilt blocks have been designed and sewn by participants in the fourteenth annual quilt block contest with the theme “Flowers in the Pasture”  Each quilter received the same yardage of five different fabrics to sew into a quilt block using an original or established pattern. 

Boone County fairgoers will be able to vote for their favorite block.

The blocks will be on display in the community building at the Boone County fairgrounds from July 19 until the release of exhibits on Sunday July 22.  Voting will close at 4:00 p.m. on July 22 and winners will be announced at approximately 4:45 p.m.  

The top 4 blocks chosen through a viewers’ choice contest during the 2018 Boone County Fair will be awarded prizes. 1st place and 2nd place for the adult division and 1st and 2nd place for the youth division.  

Themes for the previous quilt block contests included “Celebrating our Rural Heritage” in 2005, “Clowning Around” in 2006, “ Aim for the Stars” in 2007, “Wildflowers in Spring” in 2008 and “4-Ever Green” in 2009, “Bountiful Harvest” in 2010, “Barn Quilt” in 2011, “Grandma’s Day at the Fair” in 2012,“This Fair’s for You” in 2013, “Family Flower Garden” in 2014,  “Winter Thaw, Spring Rain” in 2015, “Country Nights” in 2016 and “County Fair Friendships” in 2017. The contest is chaired by Connie Sturtz of Boone.  Following the fair, Connie and friends will sew the quilt blocks into a queen size quilt which will be raffled off at the 2019 Boone County Fair.
