Veterans encouraged to apply for Freedom Flight

Seats are still available on the plane for Boone County veterans interested in going on the 2017 Boone County Freedom Flight.

A public send-off ceremony will take place Sunday, Oct. 1, in the Boone High School gymnasium to honor the veterans selected to go on the flight. Veterans will board a plane bound for Washington, D.C., Tuesday, Oct. 3. While at the nation’s capitol, the veterans will visit the war memorials, as well as Arlington National Cemetery, before returning late that night.

Applications will be accepted from veterans who either currently reside in Boone County or lived in Boone County at the time they enlisted in the service. The veterans must have served during World War II, Korea or Vietnam. All applications must be accompanied by a copy of the veteran’s DD-214 discharge/release from active duty form.

Applications can be found online at www.boonecountyfreedomflight.us or by contacting Don Batt, 515-298-0357. Completed applications can be mailed to Boone County Freedom Flight, P.O. Box 311, Boone, IA 50036. The deadline to submit applications is Aug. 14.
