Town cleanup was a big success

A group of young, ambitious adults in our community took it upon themselves to coordinate a city-wide cleanup, and their timing was perfect - just after the city-wide garage sales and before Ogden Fun Days. It was also a good start to getting the town ship-shape for RAGBRAI riders who will be coming through Tuesday, July 24.

Ogden certainly showed a lot of pride last Saturday when 55 volunteers gathered at the City Park bright and early in  preparation for a hard day’s work.

Roll-off dumpsters, donated by Wisecup Trucking, were placed on the street near the park. When all was said and done, a total of 18 dumpsters were filled -  12 were taken to Boone County Landfill and the remaining six to the salvage yard for recycling. Among bigger items collected were furniture, and mattresses. Obsolete tube TVs could be seen lining the curbs around town. Ogden Legacy coordinated with Clark’s Food Mart and Mick Bailey (manning the grill) to provide the workers with a hardy lunch.

“We were overwhelmed by how successful this was and we are looking forward to the next one,” said committee co-chair Shannon Wirtz.

“We would like to thank the city for their services, Wisecup Trucking for bringing the dumpsters and their amazing crew, the Boone County Landfill for allowing half of the garbage loads to be delivered at no cost to us, and last but never least the people who gave up a Saturday morning to help improve our wonderful  community.”
