Telephone company begins its “Fiber to the Home” project

An informational meeting is set for Tues., April 29 at the Leonard Good Community Center

In an effort to provide the community with the latest technology, Ogden Telephone Company will be upgrading its facilities.

An informational meeting to help explain their Fiber to the Home (FTTH) rollout is set for Tuesday April 29 from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Leonard Good Community Center. (See ad on page three.)

The current underground wiring system is being replaced by a new fiber optic network. According to Gary Clark, Manager of the telephone company, the installation of fiber optic cables (made of thin glass filaments) will carry digital information directly to homes.

“Fiber to the Home technology will allow our customers to receive telephone, internet and television services over the same fiber optic cable, greatly enhancing the quality and performance of all three. With FTTH, you can look forward to feature-rich phone service, faster internet speeds and digital TV with crystal clear picture and sound.”

There will be three phases involved in getting FTTH to each address:

• The telephone company will need to wire inside your premises and install a battery back up unit that must be plugged into an electrical outlet.

• A fiber optic cable will be plowed into your house/business and an optical network terminal (ONT) will be mounted on the outside.

• Finally, your services will be cut over to the fiber network.

“You pay nothing for the installation,” says Clark, “and your home will be equipped with the best services on the market.”

Ogden Telephone Company recently sent out letters to their customers explaining the upgrade.
