Stumbo not only wins at Stuart, but sets school record in the process

“Conditions were aligned for some fast races tonight – the course was fairly flat, the weather was cool, and the races were competitive,” commented Bulldog Coach Ryan Kobliska following last Thursday’s meet. “We saw some great effort from our runners, and it all added up to much improved race times and some good team finishes.”

West Central Valley played host to the junior high/high school cross country meet at Stuart.

The fastest time of the night came from Andrew Stumbo (featured on page one this week), who ran 15:48 to shatter Ogden’s school record. The previous mark was 16:25, set by Brad Hill in 2001.

“Andrew was challenged for the win by the #3 ranked runner in 1A, Shane Breheny of Nodaway Valley, said Kobliska. “The two raced side-by-side for the first two miles of the race before Andrew pulled away and opened an impressive lead. He has now raced and beaten two of the top three returning runners from last year’s state meet.”

Jacob Hinman bounced back from a recent injury to set the pace for Ogden’s next pack of guys, and he, Zane Buxton and Quinton Groth each met some big goals by breaking 18 minutes.
