       H. Marian Carter was born on January 20, 1914, in Rowan, Iowa, the youngest of three girls to Charles and Gertrude (Patten) Martin. She joined a waiting group of Angels on September 21, 2014.

Marian graduated from Rowan High School in 1931. She married the love of her life and soul mate Dorsey Carter in 1933. Eight children were born to this loving couple. Marian excelled at everything she did. She was the best wife, mother, grandmother, great grandma, cook and seamstress. There was nothing better for her than to hear her kids get off the school bus and race to the house for her fresh cinnamon rolls or chocolate chip cookies.

After Dorsey passed away in 1964, Marian worked at Bourns in Ames and moved to Boone. During her retirement she was president of the Boone Senior Citizens during the purchase of their current location. She lived with her daughter and son-in-law, Phyllis and Layton Burkhart for twenty years before moving to the Eastern Star.

Left to celebrate her life are her thirteen children, seven by birth and six by marriage, Dick (Joann) Carter, Phyllis (Layton) Burkhart, Elaine Lyftogt, Donna Rae (Harold) McDermott, Bob (Kathy) Carter, Marcia Lee (Duane) Godfrey and Dennis (Margaret) Carter; twenty five grandchildren, 44 great-grandchildren and 29 great-great grandchildren. Marian was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Dorsey, daughter, Barbara Jean, granddaughter, Julia Kay, daughter-in-law, Betty Carter, two son-in-laws, James Diehl and Robert Lyftogt, and two sisters and brother-in-laws, Eleanor (Robert) Casteel and Gladys (Duane) Poulson.

Memorials in Marian’s name may be left to your favorite charity.
