Services set for Ada Pierce

 

Ada Virginia Pierce, 86, daughter of Frank and Edna Nelson, was born Jan. 26, 1928 in Story County near Ames, Iowa. She passed away Sunday, Aug. 24, 2014 at the Rowley Memorial Masonic Home in Perry, Iowa.

A funeral mass will be 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, Aug. 27 at St. Cecilia’s Catholic Church, Panora. Visitation is Tuesday, Aug. 26 from 4 to 8 p.m. with family present from 6 to 8 p.m. at Twigg Funeral Home, Panora. A vigil service will be at 7 p.m. Burial will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday in Peoples Township Cemetery, rural Boone County near Woodward.

Ada graduated from Woodward High School in 1946. On Sept. 4, 1948 she married Robert William Pierce at Assumption Catholic Church, in Granger.  They were married for 64 years. To this union four sons were born.  She was a lifetime farm wife in the Woodward and Ogden area. She enjoyed the company of her family, sewing, cooking, baking, gardening, refinishing furniture, hosting neighborhood clubs, and annual hog roasts at their farm. Ada and Bob retired from farming in 1990. They enjoyed their home at Lake Panorama in the summer and Mesa, AZ in the winter. 

Ada was a member of St. Cecilia’s Catholic Church, Lake Panorama Association since 1989, and the St. John’s Rosary Society, Ogden.

Survivors include her four sons, Dave (Cindy) Pierce of West Des Moines; Rod (Julie) Pierce of Woodward; Jeffrey (Kathy) Pierce of Ogden; Thomas (Brenda) Pierce of Ogden;  12 grandchildren, Tamara (Sean) Hedenskog, James (Gibson) Pierce, Jill (Bill) Stineman, Bret (Elizabeth) Pierce, Matthew (Mary) Pierce, Mark (Lee)Pierce, Steven (Caitlin Hoium) Pierce, Scott (Nicole) Pierce, Kari (Tom) Harmsen, Erin (Casey) Finn, Eric Pierce and Andrew Pierce; and 11 great-grandchildren, Halle and Emma Hedenskog, Jarrett Pierce, Luke and Kate Stineman, Baby (Bret) Pierce, Makenna and Baby (Matt) Pierce, Liam, Lauren, and Baby (Erin) Finn; Sister, Margaret (David) Allen; sister-in-law, Hazel Nelson; and several nieces, nephews, and many friends.  

  She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Robert in 2013, brothers Donald Nelson and Harold Nelson, sister Betty Rhoads, and niece Janet Nelson.

Memorials may be left to St. Cecilia’s Catholic Church, Catholic Charities, Rowley Memorial Masonic Home, or Saint Jude’s Hospice.
