RSVP introduces Pen Pal Program

The RSVP 55+ Volunteer Program is currently recruiting volunteers for its Pen Pal Project, a project linking Ogden Middle School fifth grade students with volunteers through letter writing.

RSVP Director Michele Hull and RSVP Boone County Coordinator Courtney Clement are hoping you will share your volunteer spirit and help make a difference in a child’s life.

The program allows students to practice the art of letter writing, increase literacy skills, build positive multi-generational relationships and increase school-related activity learning that Hull and Clement feel is beneficial to both students and volunteers.

Six letters will be exchanged from October through April.

Utilizing profile sheets, the teacher will pair up students with volunteers. Volunteers will learn about the structure of the project and will receive a schedule during an orientation.

After seeing the success and excitement of last year’s pen pal project involving 24 participants at Trinity Lutheran School in Boone, Hull and Clement reached out to the Ogden Schools.

“The volunteer letters come back to the RSVP office and are then delivered to the teacher who will have a mail call  in the classroom,” says Hull.
