Paving of Hwy. 169 commences this week

U.S. Hwy. 169 from Ogden south to Hwy. 141 is in the process of being repaved.  The goal was to start paving Tuesday, Aug. 14 and should take three to four weeks to complete the length of the project. (UPDATE: Paving to begin Wednesday, Aug. 15. Access restrictions listed below will slide back one day.)

  According to Construction Resident Engineer Jenny Hoskins, the paving contractor began moving parts of their concrete plant in last week. “It is my understanding the contractor is, and will continue to haul rock to driveway locations so that rock can be placed next to the new roadway as soon as they have strength to allow it to be driven on,” she says.

Hoskins explained there currently is a 2.5” drop off at the edge of the pavement and when sections of the new roadway are reopened, there will be a 9.5” drop off until the rock shoulders are added. Once the shoulders are in place, more rock will be added at the driveways to match the existing driveway. 

Providing the plan stays on schedule, following are the approximate access restrictions for the first two days of paving:

Tuesday, Aug. 14

Access will be limited to the shoulder only between Hwy. 141 and 128th place. No one will be allowed to cross the new slab for at least the first few days. “Warmer temperatures accelerate the concrete gaining enough strength to allow traffic, so our heat wave is not all bad,” says Hoskins.

Wednesday, Aug. 15

Access will be limited to the shoulder only between 128th and 340th/120th Pl. There will be no access to cross US 169 at 340th /120th Pl. from Aug. 15 to Aug. 18.

The restricted access, as Hoskins, said, will be dependent on how quickly the concrete gets to the required strength.

The contractor will have orange snow fence, barricades and possibly cones marking areas that cannot be driven on.
