Ogden students finish first in innovative solutions at state Lego League

A team of Ogden sixth-grade students won first place at state for research project innovative solutions in FIRST LEGO League this month.

FIRST LEGO League (FLL) is an international program designed to get children interested in and excited about science, technology and engineering.

Lego League functions similarly to a sporting season. Ogden sixth graders qualified in the regional completion to advance to state. Every year, Lego League works on solving a problem. This year’s theme was space travel, and the challenge was to choose a social or physical problem faced by humans during long duration space flight and find a solution.

Teams start with kits, build a robot out of LEGOS and program it with a computer. Then each year are challenge elements and missions that the robot needs to preform. The kids attempt each mission and get points when they are successful.
