Ogden boys finish on top at Lake City

Ogden’s varsity boys overcame a hilly, muddy course last Tuesday, Oct. 2 at Lake City to come away with their second meet victory of the season. This is just what the coach wanted to see as they approach their championship meets in the coming weeks. The boys placed three in the top 13 and six in the top 30 to edge out a much-improved Woodward Academy team.

“Our boys are the first Ogden cross country team to win twice in a season since 2005,” said Coach Ryan Kobliska. “ Garrett Buxton and Stephen Flynn worked together throughout the race to secure two low places. Landon Smith gained several places in the hilly section of the course to solidify our team score.”

Linden Seeger showed continued improvement, as he raced with seniors Rhett Johnson and

Preston Gronseth for most of the night.

Girls

Kobliska said the high school girls are running much better than they were several weeks ago. Last night’s effort earned 8th place, just shy of several teams in front of them. Bella Russo passed ten runners mid-race and held on to finish 17th. Reagan Kruse was very strong over the second half of the course, and her steady climb through the field of runners culminated in a successful sprint finish for the 25th and final individual medal.

“Her time of 24:43 was a big personal record which is a significant accomplishment given the course conditions,” noted the coach.
