Ogden begins transition from three campuses to two

Ogden Community School District has begun the process of transitioning from three campuses to two.

Based on the contractor’s estimated time line, the school district’s renovation/construction project is on schedule.

“It is still too early to say with great confidence, as we are still very dependent on weather and material shipments,” says former OHS superintendent, Dr. Tim Hoffman. Dr. Hoffman was involved at the initial stages and has stayed on as a project coordinator.

According to Hoffman the project is under budget which would allow the district to consider replacing some of the older roof sections that are starting to fail. 

A lot of activity is taking place around the high school at this time with the interior remodel and front extension, sixth through eighth grade addition and a rerouted front drive.

The west entrance of the high school should be open to students and staff when school starts Aug. 23. But allowing proper cure time for the concrete could possibly delay bus and truck traffic a few days, said Hoffman.

The high school remodel is on track to be completed during the first part of October.

When the remodeling is complete, Ogden High School will have a new secured entryway that will funnel people past the new office. Other changes involved are:

• Converting the office space into a new vocal music room with practice rooms.

• Converting the ICN room, staff workroom and senior lounge into a new level three special education suite with life skills stations.

• Increasing the seating capacity of the auditorium, replacing seats and adding a sound booth.

• Adding air conditioning to all high school classrooms. 

The middle school addition for grades six through eight is expected to be completed in the summer of 2019.

Renovation of the current middle school building into a PreK through 5 elementary school will take place next summer.
