News from the school district

Ogden School Supt. Jon Hueser has been conducting business from the current counselor’s office as repairs are still taking place in the District offices after a heating core burst in early October, causing considerable damage to both the drywall and flooring. They hope to get moved back in by mid December. As far as other news from the district:

Minutes from the Nov. 13 Ogden Community School Board meeting reported that certified enrollment (the number that drives the finances) for 2017-2018 is 617.57 students.

This number is down 10.19 students from last year.

“The school district’s funding is based on the number of enrolled students,” says Hueser. “When enrollment goes down, the next year’s funding then also goes down. Each student is worth about $6,700 in state aid.”

The decrease is not surprising as Hueser says they are graduating bigger classes and bringing in smaller ones. The trend indicates a loss of about eight students per year for the next few years. After that, class sizes tend to stabilize.
