New teachers welcomed aboard

Ogden Community School’s new teachers were welcomed at a breakfast Thursday, morning Aug. 17 at the Ogden Middle School cafeteria.

Kelli Burdette

Kelli Burdette was raised in Ogden and continues to make it her home. She was recently hired as a fifth/sixth grade special education teacher. Kelli received her undergraduate degree in elementary education at Upper Iowa University where she is completing graduate studies in Special Education - Strategist II. She worked one year at Greene County Middle School as a 7th grade special education teacher, then spent four years at Boone Middle School as a sixth grade language arts teacher, a self-contained behavior teacher and a seventh/eighth special education behavior teacher. Her husband Tom works for Alliant Energy. They have three children, Cohl, 11; Brody, 9; and Bentley, 5.

Kaity Degen (soon to be Kaity Studer)

Kaity Degen of Emmetsburg will be teaching fourth grade at Howe Elementary School. She graduated from Iowa State University in December of 2016 and began teaching fifth and sixth grade special education in Ogden (from January through May of this year).

Justin, her fiance, is employed at Northern Natural Gas Company in Ogden.

“No children yet,” she says. “Just our kitten Dexter. He’s almost six months old!”

Kayla Krull

Kayla Krull of Northwood, Iowa will be a reading interventionist for fifth through eighth grade. She is a graduate of Iowa State University receiving a BA in English, with reading and coaching endorsements. 

Joanne Myers

Joanne Myers hails from Edinburgh, Scotland and will be teaching high school English at Ogden. She graduated from Inveralmond Community High School and acquired a BA from Queen Margaret University. She then received a BA from Iowa State University. Joanne did her student teaching at Ogden High School. She is married to Curtis Myers.

Andrew Skinner

Andrew Skinner of Denver, Iowa has taken the position of high school math teacher. After graduating from Denver High School, Andrew attended Hawkeye Community College for an AA degree then transferred to the University of Northern Iowa  for his BA.

He previously taught two years at South Page, one year at Sioux Central and one year at Ottumwa. His wife Brittany is an elementary teacher.
