New street light project underway

How many of you have noticed the new light pole at Ogden City Hall? Pretty sharp! Ogden Municipal Utilities erected this one (see photo) last month. Their hope is to eventually have them all along main street.

“It’s not that we really wanted to replace the current ones,” said OMU Manager Brandon Craighton. “They are still functional, but the bases of the old poles (put up some time in the early 70s) have begun deteriorating and are failing.”

The 22’ tall black powder-coated light pole is constructed of aluminum. According to  Craighton the LED light consumes half the power of the existing lamp and the pole can accommodate almost any accessory ie.: plant holders, banners, trash receptacles, and even speakers. “And it’s a much cleaner look,” he says. “With the grooved design, there won’t be a need for external brackets.”

A total of 26 poles will be required to cover the stretch along Walnut Street from First Street to the fire station. A series of smaller coordinating poles are planned for Mulberry Street from Second to Fourth, servicing businesses in that area.
