New to Immanuel Luth. Church: Pastor Christine Cowan

Pastor Christine Cowan has accepted a call to Immanuel Lutheran Church. She was ordained at Bethesda Lutheran Church in Ames following her completed internship there. She graduated with her MDiv degree from Luther Seminary in 2014.

Pastor Chris grew up in Portland, Maine where she earned her bachelor’s degree in nursing at the University of Maine. After working two years in pediatric neonatal, she wanted to get her masters degree in nursing, and after traveling to Iowa to visit friends, settled in Iowa City.

Christine worked towards her masters degree and met her husband, Arnie who was working on his PhD.

Moving to Detroit for Arnie’s career at Wayne State, took them out of Iowa until he accepted a position at Iowa State University, and they have lived in Ames ever since.

With young children, Pastor Chris continued to work towards her masters by commuting to Iowa City. She earned her MA in Maternal Child Nursing from the University of Iowa in 1989. She also worked at Mercy Hospital in the Special Care Nursery, which is part of neonatal intensive care.
