Three students chosen for sixth grade honor band

Ogden band instructor Liz Studer accompanied three students to Saint Francis of Assisi School in Des Moines, site of the 2nd Annual Sixth Grade Metro Honor Band. Sixth graders Hannah Dutcher (flute), Sam Christensen (tenor sax) and Ryan Nichols (percussion) spent Tuesday afternoon, Jan. 14 rehearsing their pieces with 82 other students from 28 schools in the Des Moines area.

Norwalk Middle School sixth through eighth grade band instructor Jeff Heltman was their conductor for the day.

“The students enjoyed Mr. Heltman’s good sense of humor and details when describing how he wanted them to perform their pieces,” commented Studer.

The concert that evening was made up of four pieces, Bits and Pieces, Quintus, Uskudar and Valiance.
