Meeting to be held on Community and Wellness Center

Since the Boone County Family YMCA closed its doors in September, recreation options in Boone County have been limited. A group of area residents is currently working to fill that gap in the community by building a Boone County Community and Wellness Center.

The idea is currently in planning stages, and the public is invited to share ideas and ask questions at an open informational meeting 5 p.m., Tuesday, Dec. 10 at the Leonard Good Community Center, 114 SW 8th St., Ogden at 5 p.m., Tuesday, Dec. 10.

The study committee for the project includes Boone city council members Terry Moorman, Holly Stecker and Elijah Steines; Ogden city councilman Brian Reimers, Boone resident Jennifer Hanson, DMACC Provost Drew Nelson, and Linda Williamson, former Boone chairperson for the YMCA.

“The City of Boone has given land already, and we’re in the process of hosting meetings around the county…” said Reimers. “This meeting is open to anybody who wants to view the plans. … We’re hoping anyone interested in it will come.”

The wellness center would tentatively be constructed in the southern part of the City of Boone, on Marshall Street.
