Marquee provides ideal location for community message board

The marquee of the former Ogden Theatre (now home to McGraw Senior Center) has been an icon on main street for over 75 years. Its status had come under question after severe water damage was detected. Repairs would be expensive. Apparently community members feel strongly about restoring this downtown feature - after just a short period of time a “Save the Marquee” campaign raised nearly 80% of the estimated repair cost.

The marquee, in its day, featured current movies showing on the big screen. Why not take advantage of its premier location to advertise community events?

The Center began researching electronic LED message boards to publicize events such as Ogden Fun Days, Oktoberfest and the City-Wide Garage Sale.

What Jerry Stumbo, President of the Board of McGraw Senior Center wondered: Would the residents of the community appreciate this type of signage on main street, and if so, will they support it?
