Makes for a fast two minutes

OFF TO THE RACES. Samanth Stephens, with help from her parents Dr. Rick and Linda Elbert, made a mad dash down the aisles of Boone’s HyVee store. Dr. Elbert, winner of a $500 shopping spree, decided to pass the prize on to his daughter.

The shopping spree, donated by HyVee, was given away in a raffle during Ogden Alumni Association’s Bulldog Ball.

Stephens’s strategy: “I am going with the baby aisle first for the diapers,” she said. Meats and frozen foods were her next target. Stephens and her dad met up early Tuesday morning, April 19, and cased out the store. HyVee manager John Leland laid out the rules.

“You will have two minutes,” he explained. Gift cards, alcohol and tobacco products are off limits. There is a limit of no more than five of one item.”

The horn sounded and off they went. Stephens ran to aisle four, snatched some packages of diapers from the shelf then dashed to the meat counter. Back down a few more aisles then a loud “honk” reverberated through the store, signaling time was up.

One by one the cashier ran items across the scanner. Beep, beep, beep - the total, $433.89.

Seeing she fell short of the $500 limit Stephens realized maybe she spent too much time thinking, instead of just grabbing.
