Lots of holes to fill with boys track

The Ogden boys track team might be young and inexperienced, but they have some stars and a lot of potential according to head coach Rick Hamilton.

Rick Hamilton, entering his 14th year as Ogden’s head coach, is really excited about this year’s group of track athletes at his disposal. He also is intrigued because he isn’t sure how this season will go as he is sure there will be a couple of surprises from some runners.

“We lost lots of points from last season’s seniors graduating. We also thought we would have some sprinters come out that didn’t for various reasons, so we have lots of holes to fill,” Hamilton said. “With that being said, we have a great group of young athletes who are hungry to step up and get us some points.”

With all the new spots to fill though, Hamilton isn’t quite yet sure what to expect out of the first meet, let alone the season.

“To be honest, I had the boys come and sit down and tell me what they think they should be running this first meet. Even with all the practices we have had we still aren’t quite sure what we have.”

The Ogden track team isn’t just new faces though, they have some real superstars like Andrew Stumbo and Blake Gregory. Andrew Stumbo is a two time state cross country champion who will likely compete in many of the long distant events. Gregory ran a 52 second 400 as a sophomore and he also runs a fast 800. Hamilton thinks that those are two athletes who will develop into leaders for the team, both in points and motivation. Hamilton thinks that those two seasoned athletes will blend in nicely with all the fresh faces.
