Girls track wins home meet; places 7th among teams at conferences

Ogden girls track team definitely enjoyed this week as they competed for conference and won their home meet

The Bulldogs traveled a short distance to Madrid to take on the WCAC Conference Track & Field Championships. While the Ogden girls placed in 7th out of the 9 teams, it is very safe to say that they had a lot of strong performances. Ogden totaled 59.5 points, one point from getting 6th place. Panorama got first with 168 points, more than 30 points higher than 2nd place Madrid.

For Ogden, Hannah Booth was a workhorse. She placed 2nd in the 3000 meter run. That is 40 seconds faster than her seed time for state. She was just 4 seconds behind the first-place finisher. She also ended up in second in the 1500 meter run. She ran a tremendous 5:19.86 which was her fastest time ever by 11 seconds! Just in those two events she earned Ogden 16 points.

She wasn’t done helping Ogden earn points yet. She, combined with Abbi Lentz, Myra Bolton, and Gabby Diggs placed fourth in the distance medley. They ended with a time of 4:45. Elsewhere Charlie Klauenberg finished fourth in the shot put. She was literally inches short of a higher place.

Head coach Dena Boyd was pleased with how the meet went. “It was a great night for a track meet, and we had a solid night all around. More importantly, we had a few exceptional performances, especially out of Hannah Booth,” Boyd said. “Hannah had a very strong showing and she is looking much more competitive going into the state qualifying meet next week. This meet gave us a good preview of what we will see next week at districts so we’ll be looking closely at these events as we move forward.”
