Funeral services for Leo Ott

Leo L. Ott, 93, of Boxholm, Iowa, passed away Friday, Aug. 22, 2014, at Westhaven Community in Boone.

Funeral services will be held 1:30 p.m., Saturday, August 30, 2014, at the United Methodist Church in Boxholm. Pastor Alaire Willits will officiate. Burial will be at Renner Cemetery, rural Boxholm. Leo was born Aug. 24, 1920 to Leon and Minnie (Shafer) Ott on the family farm outside of Boxholm. He attended and graduated from Boxholm Consolidated School in 1940.  

On October 28, 1944 he was joined in marriage to Ruth Jean Anderson, while serving in the United States Navy during World War II. To this union three children were born, Donald Lee, Veva Maria, and Janet Rae. Leo farmed on the family farm after returning from the service, and enjoyed feeding cattle and raising a good crop of corn and soybeans each year. Leo retired at an early age and continued to help each spring and fall with the crops. 

He and Ruth enjoyed their winters in Arizona, and his passions were playing his organ entertaining his family and friends, bowling and attending a dance each week. He enjoyed planting his garden each spring and having a beautiful flower garden. He was an active member of the Boxholm United Methodist Church, and a member of the Boone Elks Club. 

Leo is survived by his wife of 69 years, Ruth, of Westhaven Community, one son and two daughters, Donald Ott, Eureka, California, Veva (Dick) Teeters, Ogden, Iowa, Janet (Jim) Stewart,  Bunside, Iowa, seven grandchildren, Ryan and Justin Ott, Annette (Dave) Bojevsky, Michele (Joe) Overturf, Jennifer (Craig Fjelland) Teeters, Sean (Melinda) Stewart, and Shane (Kerry) Maline, nine great grandchildren, Koa Ott, Jessica and Austin Glaspey, Issac and Kennedy Overturf, Shelby and Hunter Bojevsky, Shelby, Chad and Timothy Stewart, and 2 great great grandchildren, Delanie Nissen and Aspen Glaspey, and many cousins, nieces, nephews and friends. Leo is preceded in death by his parents, Leon and Minnie Ott, his sister, Lucille Burman, and his brother Charles Ott Jr., niece, Connie (Burman) Dressen, and nephew, Craig Norris Ott.
