Cross country runners compete at Spring Lake

Bulldog runners were at Spring Lake Thursday, Sept. 7 for the Greene County Invitational.

Ogden cross country coach Ryan Kobliska says it’s been a challenging week for his teams as they work through some sicknesses and an increasing workload at school, but felt they put in a great effort last Thursday against some very strong central Iowa competition.

“Our kids were a unified team and made some big strides toward where we want to be in October,” he said.

“The high school boys team took third place overall on the strength of some nice improvement from newcomers Stephen Flynn and Landon Smith. They continue to close in on our top group, and gave us a big lift on a night when several guys were running sick.”

The boys were led by medalists Gershom Levi and Garrett Buxton, both in personal best times. Levi continues to make big gains week to week, and is now challenging some of the best runners in the area.

Ogden high school girls finished in 4th place and were led by Hannah Booth, who earned a medal with her 7th place finish. Camryn Buxton continued her steady improvement to finish 13th, running the course about 40 seconds faster than last year. They also saw big improvements from their #5-6 runners, as freshmen Maddie Grisham and Amber Braniff cut over 90 seconds from their previous race.
