Bulldogs fall to CMB in sub-state game

Ogden’s state hopes came to a close along with their season in a 6-1 loss to Collins-Maxwell-Baxter whose pitching was nothing short of exemplary.

CMB pitcher Brady Stover had a heck of a game, striking out 18 batters in seven innings. Out of the 21 possible outs in the game, Stover ended up with 18 of them, or 6/7ths of them. It was extraordinary, but Ogden’s head coach wasn’t surprised.

“He’s a great pitcher. He is so talented and has an amazing arm,” Ogden head coach Dick Smith said. “When you can pitch 80, 90 miles per hour in high school and do it accurately, you know you will do good.”

He did better than good as he only allowed one hit, a single by Jade Thompson. He did walk two batters, but other than that, it was a flawless performance. It wasn’t that Ogden was swinging at bad pitches, it just was that Stover was throwing aces.

If it wasn’t for that dynamic pitching performance Ogden probably would have been holding the banner and preparing to play in Principal Park as they were remarkably sound besides a shaky start.

Ogden started senior Nick Ross on the mound and he was a little off with his throws. In his short inning and a third he walked two batters and allowed a hit. That was very unfortunate as it allowed them to score two runs quickly in the first inning although one because of an error. That was not what Ogden’s head coach was looking for.
