Bulldogs cruise past WC Valley, face tough competition with Boone, DMC

The Ogden High School baseball team didn’t have the greatest of weeks, going 2-2 over the course of it. When you look at the quality of the opponents though, it isn’t too bad of a record as they played Boone once and Des Moines Christian twice. Both are very good teams. They have seven games coming up next week, with a double header on Monday and Thursday.

Ogden 11 -  WC Valley 0

In a game filled with errors by West Central Valley and great pitching by Ogden, the Bulldogs won 11-0.

Despite all the runs scored by Ogden, they only had four hits which shows how many errors West Central Valley had. They had no hope as the game ended after the third inning as the Bulldogs put up three, five, and three in the first, second, and third innings respectively.

Senior Nick Ross did have himself a day at the plate as he had two of the four team hits, one run, two doubles, and six RBI’s. Drew Eich had two RBI’s and Conner Paulsen had the other RBI. They were also walked five times by West Central Valley.

Senior Zach Waterbury pitched all four innings and absolutely dominated, striking out ten batters and only allowing one hit. He got the quick and easy shut out, starting the week right for the Ogden baseball team.

Boone 8 - Ogden 3

In a game where Ogden led until Boone scored seven runs in the sixth inning, Ogden fell to Boone 8-3 last Wednesday night.

Ogden was the team who jumped out to the lead scoring two runs in the second inning because of freshman Carter Church’s deep hit to right field. That was the only RBI for Ogden for this game. As a team they also only had six hits, so it wasn’t the best night at the plate for Ogden.

Ogden Coach Dick Smith said that the team needs to walk up to the plate with some confidence.

“We need some hitting confidence. We need to believe we are going to hit it, as right now we really aren’t doing that,” Smith said. “The top of the order really needs to start hitting as we’ve seen in a couple of games, once one person starts hitting it catches fire then we all start hitting.”
