Bulldogs among the swarm of runners at Story City

Ogden cross country coach Ryan Kobliska said that after last week’s race on a hilly, challenging Panorama course, his runners were excited to race on the flat course at River Bend golf course in Story City this past Thursday.

“The kids had to endure humidity, strong winds and temperatures close to 90, but we came away with some of our best times of the season,” he commented.

The boys’ varsity team finished seventh place in a highly competitive race that included several teams from class 3A. Ogden runners are still working their  way back from some illness and injury, but the fact that their average times were similar to last years’ state-qualifying team was encouraging to the Bulldog coach.

Stephen Flynn continued his strong season by picking off several runners over the final mile to earn one of the last medals.

Garrett Buxton made a nice step forward to finish just behind Flynn. Preston Gronseth and Rhett Johnson also finished in the top 25% of the 260-runner field.

Lance Longhorn ran this course two minutes faster than last year.

Kobliska said Cade Barnett has improved enough lately to finish in the top half of their last two races.

The high school girls continued to show signs of improvement. Bella Russo and Amber Braniff were Ogden’s leaders throughout the race and held on to finish in the top third of the field. Aidan Skalicky had her best race of the season to finish as our final scorer.
