Bridge by Grand Junction reopens

The overpass bridge near Grand Junction re-opened just before noon Wednesday, Nov. 15. Even though the project’s start date was pushed back and some delays occurred due to weather, the project was still completed on schedule. Anticipated finish date was sometime in November/December.

Godbersen-Smith Construction began work in April of this year. U.S. 30 was closed on April 25 and traffic was detoured north five miles to E26. According to Iowa Department of Transportation  engineer Jenny Hoskins, the previous bridge, constructed in 1957, was classified structurally deficient due to the condition of the superstructure. She also explained that the narrow shoulders took away from the function of the roadway.
